Witching Waves Breaking Point

Sometimes you have to face facts.

In this case, it’s the realisation that I can’t sustain this blog in the way that I’d like — the way it’s been written in the last few years. Teaching simply takes up too much of my time.

But I can’t let it go. Despite the paucity of readers and listeners, I still feel that I’m making a contribution whenever I do post. There’s so much really good music out there that deserves a wider audience, however small that may be.

So I need to make it easier and quicker; fewer words in other words.

I procrastinate, deliberate


I procrastinate because for the first time 11 months I can, the school year having ended. This gives me time to deliberate on the contents of this, the latest Heard on the Wire selection. And such procrastination and deliberation has yielded a bumper, multinational selection of tunes for your delectation.

Turn it around, turn it upside down


I used to write news reports when Apple released new iPods. Hell, I’d write a news report when they updated the software from 1.2.5 to 1.2.6. It was significant in those days.

Now, just a few years later when Apple updates its iPod range, still comprising three models, scarcely anyone notices. The device that helped to transform the way we listen to music is almost a curiosity. What do you mean, the next generation will ask, you had to have a special device just to listen to music?
