Another day another beach

I’d describe my blogging style as lazily enthusiastic. Posts may be infrequent, but that’s as much to do with the effort that goes into putting them together as it is to do with, well, idleness and a vague dislike of typing.

Lazily enthusiastic, it seems to me, could also be a prerequisite characteristic of the combos, crooners and computer kids who appear hereabouts, though I expect that’s not in the least bit accurate, just the impression given by their immaculately but unfashionably turned out records.

Sheena is a punk rocker

If there were such a thing as a Best Punk-Pop Album of the Year award then Spain’s When Nalda Became a Punk would have it pretty much sown up, but running them a close second would be a female duo from the San Fernando Valley.

Bleached’s Ride Your Heart has been the smithsocksound of summer, the product of Jennifer and Jessie Calvin, two sisters with guitars and a great record collection. They look pretty cool too and write songs they describe as “punk, but also rock ‘n’ roll with a little bit of pop.”

I know this much is true


Perambulate, a good friend said, when I lamented a lack of loquaciousness, though not an absence of alliteration, in the preparation of this post.

Not a bad suggestion, as it happens, since perambulate is exactly what I do when I write these posts, strolling around the sonar landscape in search of enrichments to the musical lexicon.
