Five, four, three, two…

This all started with an idea that came to me on the way back from the pub: I blog each five-star record that shuffle throws up, the follow it with four-, three- and two-star tunes that are somehow related, however tenuously.

That first, post-pub record was Wah!’s Seven Minutes to Midnight. Let the stars shine.

➡ Succumb to the beat surrender
The Jam, Stereolab, Stereowoolf and Bikini Kill.

➡ I’ve got a socialism of the heart
Billy Bragg, Spare Snare, Super Furry Animals, Meanwhile Back In Communist Russia and Kenickie.

➡ We’ll live in holes and disused shafts
Joy Division, No Age, Pocketbooks, Found and DJ Riko.

➡ When love’s gone, they’ll lustre on
The Broken Family Band, Mighty Diamonds, Jimmy Martin and Shirley Bassey.

➡ They’ll be called the survivors
The Stockholm Monsters, Billie the Vision and the Dancers, Elastica and the Stranglers.

➡ They’d send a limousine anyway
The Clash, Motörhead, Herman Düne and the Stockholm Monsters.

➡ Starting at the violent sound
The Cure.

➡ I must confess you always were the best
Decoration, the Positions, Otis Redding and Elvis Presley.

➡ You can’t justify it, not a word
Wah!, the Red Guitars, Half Man Half Biscuit and the Jam.
