Everybody’s crazy, what’s your excuse?

Veronica Klaus 4 - SF Center Soiree 8

There has been an overabundance of US bands on the blog of late and Something about the name suggested that Veronica Falls were another. In fact, coming from London they’re very much an English ensemble, comprising Roxanne Clifford and James Hoare on vocals and guitar, Marion Herbain on bass and Patrick Doyle banging the drums.

According to Wikipedia, they came to prominence with the release of their self-titled debut album in 2011. The album reached the heady heights of number 150 in the the UK album chart, which fact gives a new meaning to the word prominence.

Waiting for Something to Happen is their second long player and will, I’m sure, prove to be one of the finest indie pop records of 2013, though probably not the most prominent.

Teen Mom’s name is no trans-Atlantic trick: they are from US capital Washington DC and comprise singer and guitarist Chris Kelly, bass player Omar Tanamly, guitarist Tom MacWright and drummer Sean Dalby (drums). They released a five-track mini-LP last year, which sounds like this.

Lotte Kestner is the solo project of Anna-Lynne Williams, who, according to Wikipedia, is best known as the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist of Trespassers William, an indie rock band based in Seattle, Washington.

Anna-Lynne Williams, on the other hand, is better known as Lotte Kestner, a prolific recorder of both self-penned and tunes and the work of others.

Written by Ewan MacColl in 1957 and an international hit for Roberta Flack in 1972, this song appears in a collection of covers by Kestner that also includes worth-listening-to versions of Elvis Costello’s I Want You and Tricky’s Black Metallic.

And now for something completely different, a record that reminds me of early Killing Joke. mnttaB is the work of one man from Australia and that’s about all I know, except he makes good music and his nom de guerre is pronounced “meant to be”.

mnttaB :: mainsHum

And talking of Killing Joke, they were good, once.
