heard on the wire

We’re floating 700 miles

I don’t know any rock ’n’ roll stars but I do know a man who does — two in fact.

First there’s my youngest brother Grant, who used to work with the bass player of the fantastic Decoration and once gave me a signed CD as an absolutely perfect birthday present.

Then there’s Clive, whose school friends Ian and Lisa are the heartbeat of one of the most brilliant bands of the past decade, Bearsuit.

There’s more invention and life, more fun and life-affirming wonder in one Bearsuit song than you would find in a Glastonbury of identikit “indie bands” with their famous girlfriends and designer haircuts. This proves it, my 2001 song-from-each-year-of-my-life.

And Clive gave me a fab t-shirt.

And, as if more evidence were needed, this is my all-time most favourite Bearsuit track of all-time.

And finally, the video for When Will I Be Queen, taken from their, yes, brilliant 2011 LP, The Phantom Forest.
